The End written and directed by Ted Evans, is a powerful moving drama that spans a 60 year period, charting the introduction of 'the treatment' and the subsequent decline of deaf culture.

Made with just £4,000 under the BSLBT's Zoom Short film scheme, the film has gone on to screen at international film festivals worldwide, picking up five awards to date.

FESTIVAL DEL CINEMA SORDO DI ROMA

"Through a winning narrative structure and a proper photography, for having denounced the risk nursed in a dull-minded society that considers deafness as an illness to be treated and the deaf as people who has to be brought back to “normality” or “wiped out”, giving up the highly precious opportunity to appreciate the wealth existing in each sort of unlikeness."
- Jury members: Raffaele Cagnazzo - Massimiliano Giovannardi - Elisabetta Pandimiglio

LOOK & ROLL FESTIVAL

"The British film-maker presents us with a harrowing vision of a society that therapeutically eliminates the deaf culture it thinks of only as an economic irritation. The film brilliantly combines elements of reportage and fiction while following commonplace preconceptions about disability through to a frightening finale: the apparent document of a long-term study of deaf culture thus reveals itself to in fact be a science-fiction drama."
